Circulation Policies

Registration - Library Cards

Library cards can be issued only to residents of Al Ain 18 and above.

Library membership is free.

Applicants must provide an Emirates ID. Applicant must also provide phone number, email, and number of people in household. Applicant must allow 24 hours for library card application to be processed before accessing online account.

Each person is allowed up to 10 items to checkout.

Circulating books are loaned for a period of three weeks and may be renewed for another three weeks.

After an item has been renewed once, it must be checked in and on the shelf for at least 3 days before it is available to the same patron or his or her assignee.

There are no renewals for items on hold or reserved for another patron.

Circulating DVDs are loaned for a period of one week and may be renewed for one more week if the items are not on reserve.

Items are to be returned by closing time of the due date.

For all books and music sheets, donations will be accepted in lieu of fines.

A fine of 1 dirham per day with a cap of 5 dirhams for overdue DVDs will be assessed against any patron not returning items by the closing time of the due date.

The outside book drop can be used to return materials when the library is closed.

Patrons may request that an item be held for them.

The patron will be notified by phone and email when the item is available.

If the item is not claimed within five library days after notification, it will be given to the next patron on the reserve list or returned to general circulation.

Code of Conduct Policy

It is the policy of the Living Water Library to provide a safe, comfortable environment that is conducive to the use of the library facilities, resources, and equipment either by individuals or small groups.

The library is designed for all members of the public.

Patrons are expected to reserve the rights of other patrons and staff members and to use the library for its intended purposes.

Behavior Not Allowed in the Library

*any behavior that endangers the safety or health of others

*violation of any local, regional, or federal law

*vandalism or deliberate destruction of library properties

Note: Patrons will be financially responsible for any destruction of library property.

*theft of library materials or the personal property of others or patrons or staff members

*deliberate disruption of library procedures (including the work of the staff)

*use of abusive language

*loud talking or laughing that disturbs or could disturb other patrons

*loitering in the building

In most cases, patrons who are behaving inappropriately in the library will be given one warning by the library staff of the day and asked to behave in an appropriate manner.

Patrons who refuse to behave more appropriately after one warning will be asked to leave the library.

Serious violations, which include behaviors that are absolutely unacceptable, do not require a warning, but can result in the loss of library privileges for as long as management deems necessary.

Volunteer Circulation

Volunteers of the library will not be assessed fines for overdue materials and provided with DVD rental opportunities.

All scheduling for the library team will be posted a month ahead and changes must be made well in advance.
